Freda Mitchell

International Gospel Recording Artist Alfreda Mitchell, stage name, Freda has been sitting in the front of the church singing and praising God since she was 5 years old. At the young age of 10, she sang in the radio/TV choir for Greater St. John Baptist Church, the church where she grew up. As a young adult, shortly after joining the 100-voice Echoes of Zion Choir, Freda became one of its lead vocalists. She later became the lead vocalist for a group of four young ladies known as the St. John Specials.

Always performing her own original material, Freda has sung with many gospel greats such as Vickie Winans, Albertina Walker, Tonex & the Gospel Elites, Helen Baylor, Hezekiah Walker, The Carravans, Marvin Sapp,Tremaine Hawkins, Margaret Deroux, Twinkie Clark, Rev. Darryl Coley, Tye Tribett, Judith McAllister, Ted & Sherry, Jennifer Holiday, Evelyn Turrentine- Agee, Shirley Ceaser, The William Brothers, V Michael McKay, Mighty Clouds of Joy, Lee Williams, Helen Baylor, and The Dixie Humming Birds.

Freda has also shared the stage with many great actors such as Rockmond Dunbar, Denise Matthews, Oprah Winfrey(appeared as a guest), Tichina Arnold, Tommy Ford, Judge Mablean Ephraim (formerly of Divorce Court), and Bill Cosby.

Furthermore, Ms. Mitchell’s gift has been displayed for both, Golden State Warriors and San Francisco Giants games and with such musical legends as James Brown, John Lee Hooker, BB King. Freda has also performed forThe Royal Family in Italy and The Pope in St. Peters Square.

Upon releasing her debut CD, “When God Steps In,” Freda received the Gospel Academy Award for Female Vocalist of the Year and was a Stellar Award winner in Los Angeles as well as a Showtime at the Apollo Winner. Freda hosted her own television show,

“Freda and Success” on a local Bay Area cable TV station.

Her gift to minister in song has been extended as far as Paris, France; Germany, Italy, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Australia, London, Holland, Istanbul, Turkey, Virgin Islands, Bahamas, New Zealand, China, Dallas, and New York. Also committed to her community, she frequently appears throughout the Greater Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Areas.

Freda has performed sermonic solos for a host of mighty men and women of God such as the late Bishop G.E. Patterson, Bishop Noel Jones, Bishop Kenneth Ulmer,Bishop Ernestine Reems -Dickerson, Bishop George Bloomer, Bishop Ray Mack,Dr.’s Fred and Betty Price, Dr. Tony Evans, Bishop Charles E.
